About Ambyr

With over 20 years of experience in the education system, I am deeply committed to serving as a strong, knowledgeable advocate for students, families, and educators. My career has been driven by a passion for ensuring that every child receives the support and resources they need to thrive.

I hold Bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology, as well as a Master’s degree in Special Education. My expertise is further reinforced by thousands of hours of advanced training in special education rights, laws, policies, and services—knowledge I leverage to empower families navigating the system.

My professional journey began in Wyoming, where I spent four years teaching and specializing in K-8 students with social, emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. I then relocated to Pittsburgh, where I led Therapeutic Emotional Support Classrooms for grades 5-8, supporting students with diverse needs. During this time, I also worked as an in-home children’s therapist, specializing in children with ADHD, Autism, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

In 2018, I moved to Alexandria, serving in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) first as a Learning Support Teacher and later as a 4th Grade General Education Teacher. These roles deepened my understanding of both special education and general education frameworks, allowing me to bridge gaps between systems.

In 2023, I transitioned to full-time advocacy, driven by my desire to help families navigate the complexities of special education. Since then, I have supported families across multiple school districts, meticulously reviewing reports and data to identify key questions, advocate for appropriate goals, and secure essential accommodations and services.

My mission is to stand beside families as their expert ally—ensuring their voices are heard while fostering collaboration between home and school. Every child deserves an equitable education, and I am dedicated to making that a reality.
